After years of looking for the perfect church, I find it
After years of looking for the perfect church, I found it this morning on my lawn.
The World Race groups showed up in the big tent at a little after 6:30 in the morning. No one said, “It’s time to start.” James had a guitar and began leading worship. It’s a hungry bunch of young lions – you could feel the presence of the Lord. Some stood, others sat. Some fell to their knees; others raised their hands.
At various times someone would pray or read a scripture. People shared what God was doing in their heart as they were led. Chris had a guitar and he led worship. Someone had an exhortation, but no one preached. After a while, Clinton found some juice and a poptart and we had communion. We prayed some more and worshipped some more. Ginger grabbed the guitar and led us in a song. We finished reluctantly when breakfast showed up.
This afternoon they are out on the lake in canoes and kayaks. The weather is perfect – God is in His heaven and the body of Christ is doing what it’s supposed to be doing.
In several months, this group of wild men and women will go to the nations for a year. They’ll live in poverty among the poor, ministering to the hopeless – the orphans and the widows. They’ll abandon all that we consider important, but they’ll go with a great sense of the Lord’s provision and protection. And they’ll be taking the perfect church with them.

Sounds like heaven to me. Well done servant.
WOW! This is absolutely amazing. You are so right – you found a group of believers who are “laying down their lives” for a year to travel around the world and minister to people on their own volition. This definitely makes for a great church!
You are all in my prayers. Thank you for keeping us updated on what these young men and women are going through and how God is working in and through them.

Hi Seth,
Sounds awesome! I love times of worship like that. But I think it’s important to remember that there will always be times when we struggle to push in, times when we’re in the desert and we want to be in that place you describe but we’re not. I think people can feel condemned when they compare themselves to this and fall short. But I guess that’s where the rest of the body comes in, where one person struggles there’s always someone else who can encourage and minister to that person. To me the perfect church is where people have the love and openness to pour life into each other.
