christelfer smHow many of us go through life with dreams unrealized? Maybe we’re a poet with poems unwritten, maybe we’re a singer with songs unsung. It’s not a good way to live. God gives us gifts and he wants us to express them.

And having committed to our dream, how many of us are able to actually see it realized as we imagined it? It takes commitment, a team, and resources.

Chris Telfer had a dream and for a long time people wondered if he would see it happen. In 2007, we sent the second World Race teams around the world. Chris was in that group. Chris was one of the guys who I connected easily with. He was a part of our media team and had a musical gift that made our team worship times wonderful.

But like so many of us, Chris struggled with how to adequately express his gift. Artists usually struggle to find their audience and voice – Chris was no exception.

One of the coaches on the race, Chuck Day, is a country music star. He listened to Chris and said, “You have got tremendous talent and you need to record an album.”

A couple of years went by. Chris honed his skill and wrote songs. He married fellow racer Jenny Willis. The dream only grew in intensity. Committing to it would require a lot – he’d have to spend substantial time and money.

Fortunately for those of us who enjoy great music, Chris persevered and this past year, recorded the album that he’d dreamed about. He called it “Rooted Deep.”

The question you ask is, “Is it any good?” Of course I’m going to give it two thumbs up and tell you it’s fantastic. I think God gifted Chris to write and sing these songs. Chris is going to find his audience with this album. But then, I’m biased. You really need to go to his site and listen for yourself

I love that Chris deals with the themes on God’s heart – covenant, intimacy and relationship. His voice is a gift to the spirit. And I love that at last, his dream has become a reality. It makes our crazy dreams seem that much more possible.
