Sydney was raking the leaves with Clint. She looked up at him and asked a question.

“Dad, this isn’t real is it?”

“What’s not real, Syd?”

“This whole thing. Me. You. This rake – none of it’s real.”

“What do you mean?”

“We’re all just characters in a story, a story that he’s writing.”

Sydney has it exactly right. We’re spiritual beings having a temporary human experience. We have to become like children to enter the kingdom of heaven. We see it with spiritual eyes.

The writer of Hebrews says, “They only saw things from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth.”*

Too many of us live our lives focusing on the rake, missing the bigger story that God is writing. We focus on providing for ourselves when Jesus said, “do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than that.”

It’s a good day to rededicate yourself to pursuing that which you can’t see. Ask God to show you where you fit in the story he’s writing.

*Hebrews 11:13
