It’s interesting what shows up on CNN in a given news cycle. How many of you were aware of the scope of the floods that hit Pakistan this past week? I found a link somewhere after Chelsea Clinton’s wedding and Congressman Rangel’s ethics problems. Pastor Augustine Joseph of Disciple Union Ministries sent some pictures and wrote most of the following report:
More than a million of people have been affected by the floods in the country’s northwestern sector.
The flood also left hundreds missing and over 800 dead.
The Northwest has been hit the hardest with the worst flooding since 1929. The flood has destroyed many bridges and shut down the highway connecting Peshawar to the capital, Islamabad.
Rescue teams are trying to help thousands of flood victims as some 400,000 people remain stranded in far-flung villages.
A man identified as Charsadda said that his whole village had been forced to spend the night by the roadside. “We have lost everything,” he said. “Nothing is left.”
Pakistan has appealed to international organizations to help the county deal with its worst flood in the past 81 years.
The sad thing is that the most of the Christian community live in
villages and flood areas. Please keep our poor people in your prayers
for safety and provision.

Thank you Seth for getting this out. Where is our media? “Oh Lord, we ask that you would bring comfort and use this to attract people to Jesus…”
Thank you Seth for this. We will pray and implore others to lift up their voices to heaven for the Lord’s intervention and visitations.
May the Lord be glorified as he draws Men to himself through this disaster. Amen.

wow!
I am not surprised about where you found the article on the floods, just that you did at all. My husband and I work with Christians in Andhra Pradesh, SE India. The worst flooding in 30 years happened in May when Cyclone Laila hit them in Ongole, and I didn’t see anything in our news about it at all. Our church and IDES were able to wire funds to purchase food and relief was delivered to 1300 families by our contacts there in 8 villages. One of our sponsor children lost her home completely. we drove by and saw the mud left where it used to be, and met her parents for the first time. Amazing their joy in the face of it all. The same area was hit by the tail end of the 2004 December 26 tsunami. I’ve found if you want news, keep BBC as your homepage.
I have been away from all news, and internet for the most part too. We are on “vacation” in VA. But I guess even if I were plugged in, I would be clueless about Pakistan but up to date on the Clinton wedding.
What screwed up priorities of newsworthiness.
I come here to rest; I am enjoying time with a great friend who flew in from Ecuador to spend my birthday week with me. But my rest has now been disturbed by the construction of a home monstrosity (5,000 square feet plus) that has been placed as close to the water as possible, and taken our view of the water along with it. I am sick. I don’t want affluence shoved in my face in the place I come to retreat to. And apparently they had the contractors move a wall because the room wasn’t big enough to accomodate the dog beds. They are unmarried, in their early 40s and have three dogs. And the price ticket on this project? Enough to have a significant impact on helping Pakistanis.
Consumerism, self centerdness and what the US media considers news just makes me want to vomit.
My heart is breaking.
Peace.
