“‘My ways are not your ways,’ says the Lord.” God sees things through a different lens than we do. We who follow Jesus spend most of our lives trying to come in alignment with it. I ran across this wonderful blog by Kristen Paulick (who is going on the World Race in a few months) explaining the phenomenon in a practical way.

Redefined:

      Toilet:
               1. World:  a fixture that consists usually of a water-flushed bowl and seat.

   2. God:
Luke 18:9-14  . . . We have all become like one who is
unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We
all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
Isaiah 64:6

      Bed:
               1. World: a mattress filled with soft material.
               2. God:
As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father. And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” Yet another said, “I will follow you Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God. Luke 9: 57-62

      Clean:
                 1. World: free from dirt or pollution.
                 2. God:
“Christ loved the church and gave himself up for
her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of
water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in
splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be
holy and without blemish.” Ephesians 5:25-27.

      Luxury:
                 1. World: a condition of abundance or great ease and comfort.
                 2. God:
And
the King will answer them, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one
of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:40

      Impoverished:
               1. World: the state of one who lacks a usual amount of money or material possessions
               2. God:
“If among you, one of your brothers should
become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the Lord your
God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand
against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend
him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be.” Deuteronomy 15:7-8.

      Rich:
               1. World: Having abundant possessions and especially material wealth
               2. God:
“Truly
I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters
or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the
gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and
brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with
persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. But many who are
first will be last and the last first.” Mark 10:29-31

      Confidence:
               1. World: a feeling or consciousness of one’s powers or of reliance on one’s circumstances
               2. God:
“Therefore,
brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the
blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through
the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great
priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in
full assurance of faith with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil
conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the
confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is
faithful.” Hebrews 10: 19-23.

      Me:
               1. World: selfish, shallow, superficial, fat, unworthy, unloveable, used, weird, stupid too tall.
               2. God:
“For
freedom Christ set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit
again to the yoke of slavery. . . . For you were called to freedom,
brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh,
but through love serve one another. . . . let us also walk by the
Spirit.”
Galatians 5: 1; 13; 16; 22-25

      God:
               1. World: the supreme or ultimate reality
               2. God:
Where
is the way to the dwelling of light, and where is the place of
darkness, that you may take it to its territory and that you may
discern the paths to its home? . . . Can you bind the chains of the
Pleiades or loose the cords of Orion? Can you lead forth the Mazzaroth
in their season, or can you guide the Bear with its children? Do you
know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you establish their rule on the
earth? Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that a flood of waters
may cover you? Can you send forth lightnings, that they may go and say
to you, ‘Here we are’? Who has put wisdom in the inward parts or given
understanding to the mind?” Job 38: 19-20; 31-36
