Perhaps because so much is at stake, hearing God on the
question of “What should I be when I grow up?” can be difficult. What gets in
the way for you?

Here are three things that get in the way of following
God’s call for me:

Lifestyle: You’re locked into a lifestyle. You’ve
traded the possibility of wild, out-of-the-box living for debt and a garage full
of stuff. Maybe you didn’t realize it. More of us need to kick our expensive
lifestyle habits!

Fear: Maybe you’re afraid. Of the unknown. Or
of stepping outside your comfort zone. But I always think about something I
fear more: Dying with regrets. Dying with my songs unsung. I fear that most
of all.

Deafness: You don’t know what God’s voice sounds
like. You don’t know what He’s calling you to do. It’s a struggle to hear His
voice.

We are all called. God is perpetually calling to us. A
call is a progressive thing; you’ve never absolved yourself of your
responsibility to listen. What gets in the way of
your
call?

  • I agree with fear, and a lifestyle hindering our Hearing the voice of God… I can add a few that I have experienced:
NOT being still and know that He is God.
    SIN, uncomfessed (to Him)
A call for Obedience not followed trough.
A Conviction from the Holy Spirit ignored.
JUSTIFICATION: (I deserve better, for sure God would not want me to live like this)
CONFUSION: The enemy clever and in disguise
    PEER pressure,
    BLINDNESS more than Deafness
    DISTRACTION of the WORLD
SURRENDERING long enough to feel better, BUT NOT long enough to HEAR what GOD has to say about the outcome.
and I am sure, there are a few more than I am not thinking about right now.
There is so many ways we can hear GOD’S VOICE, still and small; PRINTED and the letters jump at you out of His Word; and let not forget the numerous “messengers” that do not show up by COINCIDENCE… just GOD-INCIDENCES.
    Hope this helps someone,
Struggling to hear God’s voice in NY

  • “dying with regrets . . . ” Me too (I think). My “signature” sermon this year has been: Love Extravagantly, Live Regretlessly, and Long for Jesus.
I’m praying to be able to live it and not just speak it.

I'm motivated to join God in his global reclamation project. He's on the move, setting his sons and daughters free from their places of captivity. And he's partnering with those of us who have been freed to go and free others.
