Karen and I are debriefing our World Race team in Kiev. What an experience it’s been! Thirty-two 20-somethings have spent a year going around the world together and we’ve had the privilege of being their coaches.
Along the way they’ve learned so much about their identity; they’ve gotten a new worldview, and they went so deep in creating community.
Community comes at a cost – it requires vulnerability and brings pain. It’s intense. So many tears and so much laughter. Katie Rowland just posted this great video about the process and what we’ve all been learning.
Thanks, Seth.
In my experience “real” community happens when people sustain relationships over time and without personal competitiveness.
That’s hard to find. Rejoicing with those who rejoice and weeping with those who weep.
Love you.
I love this.
beautiful!!
Just how it is on these things – superb record. Well done Katie.
Since knowing about the World Race and experiencing it; it was clear Community would be the greatest lesson taken from the Race. It is so challenging compared to everything else. Well done on the video!
Seth, thanks for sharing this. It will help us parents know just a bit about hard it will be on them to now give up their community they have grown a custom to. It reminds me of the whole opposite thing and Jesus’ ministry. Loosing your life to save it, giving it all away to gain access to his kingdom, disliking community but growing to love it. Thank you for letting God use you and Karen to shepherd this team of 32 who will continue to change our world, one life at a time. Thanking God that my daughter was a part of it. I am praying for each one of the 32 to use this 11 months as a spring board for the remainder of their lives. WOW!!
Watching them transition from the intense community they experience over a year of living together while going around the world to home life where people may not understand them at all can be hard. They need empathy as much as they need community. And they have so much to teach us all.
So much to learn from these beautiful lovers of God. I long for this.
Beautiful!!! Love your squad and so proud of them as well as you and Karen!!!
