Will God Give You a Sign?

Rinaldo and Esther are Christian friends from Switzerland. They had moved together from their native Switzerland to Naples, Florida.
Early on in their relationship, Rinaldo knew that Esther was the one for him. He was desperately in love with her. As their relationship progressed, from time to time he would ask her, “Estie, when will you be my wife?”
She had it in her mind to wait until she was 26 to get married. Since she was only 25, she would tell him, “ Not yet.”
One sunny August afternoon, Esther and Rinaldo were at the beach. They went out into the ocean and were standing waist deep in the blue Gulf coast waters.
As they faced one another, Rinaldo felt that perhaps the time was right to ask Esther again.
“Estie, will you marry me? Are you ready now?”
This time, Esther hesitated. She remembered a message she had heard recently about God’s confirmation, so she responded, “Maybe we should ask God for a sign.”
Rinaldo said, “Good idea. Why don’t you ask God for one?”
Esther said, “OK, if a fish jumps out of the water, then we’ll know we’re supposed to get married.”
“That sounds good,” Rinaldo responded.
They were startled by what happened next. Suddenly, the water around them seemed to boil as not one, but dozens of fish jumped out of the water! The sea churned with the sound of jumping fish for about ten seconds. And then it became quiet again.
Esther didn’t know whether to trust her senses.
“That can’t be, did you see the same thing I just saw?” she asked incredulously.
Rinaldo was grinning from ear to ear. “Now you shouldn’t doubt the Lord – that was a clear sign!”
Later after they’d gotten out of the water and dried off, Rinaldo called up a fisherman friend and asked him, “Have you ever jumping fish in that part of the ocean? Would it be normal to see fish jump there at that time?”
The answer left no doubt, “You never see jumping fish there, and you wouldn’t expect to see them jumping around people. That was clearly a sign from God.”
There was no denying God’s very personal response to Estie’s prayer.
Two months later, Esther and Rinaldo were married in a joyous wedding celebration. They have lived a wonderful life together.
What was true for them can be true for us. God delights in giving good gifts to his children. Why not ask him?
“If he asks for fish…you give it to him. Don’t you realize that your heavenly Father will do at least as much?” Luke 11

What a beautiful story, and a great reminder to pray specifically and listen for God’s specific answer.
Awesome!!!! The simplicity of God’s dealings with us as His children…
Thanks for sharing Grandpa Seth
Beautiful. The part we so often forget is to go to God and ask. I wonder if God doesn’t just sometimes think, oh my, these obtuse people, I am so wanting to pour out my blessings, but they always try to figure it out their own way,and do things in thier own strength. If only they would ask me, believing, so I could bless them abundantly. I know I forget, anyway. This same verse just was the focus of recent conversation. I needed this today
Yeah – I think we all need the reminder. I know I do.
There is mystery…madness…munificent things…multiplicity…mourning…mundane matters…and much more…all sipped from the bittersweet cup of life. I love you and your family Seth. That is like tectonic granite.
Thank you for sharing. I believe He is so intricately involved and loves showing us how much He cares by “signs” like this. This lifted my heart Seth, miss you all over there in good ol Georgia, but still fighting for you and carrying you in my heart!
You are sweet, Britt.
Lovely, Seth.
Just lovely…
Thank you for sharing.
