This is so true. For awhile I was in the mindset that every person professing to love God would be a “missionary.” But after spending some deeper time with God and His kids, my thoughts were made more clear. Yes, Every follower of Christ is called to be a missionary. But that doesn’t mean going overseas and feeding the hungry and evangelizing the people who want to learn. Yes that stuff is good, but God has given me a different perspective. Being a missionary means walking out every day of your life according to where God is walking. Whether it be in a village in Africa, to the multimillion dollar business in America. God gives different gifts and talents but we all have the same call. Make disciples.
Thanks, Seth for posting this. It is reconfirming word.
I’ve definitely found this to be true in my life! I have been working for the past 3 years as a Guest Service Manager in a Spa. It’s been amazing to see the things God has done and I’ve been able to develop the gift of hospitality that He’s given me. I also get cheap massages which is pretty nice. 🙂
This reminds me of the 7 Mountain Mandate, taught by Lance Wallnou, powerful teachings and revelations. You can see how God is moving and opening doors for Kingdom advancement. Great stuff Seth.
Great book indeed! Tune in to 91.5 fm in Atlanta THIS Friday, Feb. 4 from 3pm – 5pm or listen online at http://www.victory915.com to listen to Johnny & Elizabeth Enlow live as they minister on the air 🙂
Yes! Here at CDM, we have those going to college, working in the public, going into missions, but also computer programming, a massage therapist, a contractor, etc. It would seem easier for us all to be immersed in missions for months at a time, but they are learning to walk with Jesus and join Him in His work everywhere they go – in their “ordinary” days. We’re looking for some great God stories each day we set out and come back!
Really appreciated this post. It was really good for me today, and a great reminder.
I definitely have a heart to see The Church be what God has always desired-a people that Love Him and let that Love flow out to others. I want to see his Kingdom Come and for all believers to live into their full destiny. I hate that Christianity has become religious and compartmentalized. I believe God wants to manifest Himself in remarkable ways whereever we are: school, workplace, home, grocery store, etc. I have a heart for all of us as believers to really get what that looks like!
This just confirms what I have intuitively believed…that we are all called and gifted and serve as missionaries right where we are. Right now for me it is family, although I think the seasons and places of service ebb and flow. I also feel strongly that I am placed to challenge the beliefs that so many of those who don’t know Jesus have about Christians (ie just what is discussed in the book UnChristian…) so perhaps that is the realm of religion? I just know that I always step away from reading your posts feeling very affirmed and not alone.
This is great, Daddio. Sometimes I wish so badly that I could just be a missionary in Guatemala or something but I am being obedient to where he has me right now. I think I get more than I give out when I’m on mission trips, not as much when I’m acting, but in a necessary way, I think.
Anyway thanks for this!
Great list! I’m actually drawn to the entertainment side of culture for some reason. Maybe it’s because that’s become an area of such time consumption for many Americans.
We see so much non-redemptive messaging in movies, TV, music, and even books that it’s really started to bother me. I don’t want to withdraw from culture, though; I’m challenged to help create it.
