Overcoming Your Special Needs
I first met Milliam 21 years ago in Kijabe, Kenya.
My parents worked at a hospital compound on the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. When we visited them, they introduced me to Milliam, an entrepreneur who made sweaters to sell. She did this despite the special needs that made it difficult.
Milliam had a dream of buying a sewing machine so that she could make and sell many more sweaters. She shared the dream with my dad and he helped her get the machine.
When we returned years later, it was wonderful to see the progress she had made. She was selling an array of handicrafts. She spread them out on a blanket so we could see them.
Milliam has a son with a similar disability as she has. But he has done well in school and is hoping to go into a computer-related field.
Like Milliam, our daughter has special needs. Life is difficult for her. So often she comes up against obstacles. But I look at Milliam and her son and I’m encouraged. If they can achieve their dreams, why not my daughter?
Do you know someone with special needs? Actually, we all have special needs. All of us are in some way handicapped and need other people. God wants to meet you wherever you are and meet your special needs.

Seth,
Thank you for sharing this. Yes, I believe we all have special needs and in need of other people. I love how you dad helped her accomplish one of her dreams. May we all take notice and help others fulfill their dreams. It’s the heart of the Father.
I love how you’ve cared for those w/ special needs over the years, Becky!
Thank you Seth. I’ve often said we know if Jesus is at work in our heart and life by how we treat the dying, disabled, delinquent, despairing, elderly, prisoners and widows.
Love you.
Amen, Butch.
