Sounds incredible! Sera Kasonga is 25 and has taken in 23 kids from terrible home and homeless situations. She is based on Jinja Uganda. What is really incredible about her doing this is that she watched her family be brutally tortured and murdered from the Rawandan genocide. She escaped and survived and grew up on her own from the age of 4. She grew to become very compassionate and now takes care of kids from the slums and has taken them in to be her own. sera’scaringplace.blogspot.com check her out 🙂
I met a guy named David Peterka when we were at a hostel in Jinja on the race who was pretty legit and very Spirit-led. He’s in his mid 20s and has founded a non-profit called When the Saints that focuses on empowering the church to defend the poor and oppressed. They shot a documentary called Give a Damn that showed the attitude most westerners have toward global poverty. They’re currently working on building a home for girls who have been trafficked in Malawi and hoping to break ground on it in July. He would be a pretty cool person to feature.

Seth,
I am not sure about her age, but I am very impressed by AIM missionary Erica Zeiler, who is stationed in Swaziland. She has a very strong faith in God and is passionately working for the struggling orphans and widows of Swaziland. She is an inspiration to anyone that comes in contact with her. She is an an example for all of us to follow. She IS walking in Christ’s footsteps.
My friends Jedd and Janelle Schroy have an amazing ministry in South Africa! http://www.shiftingparadigms.org They empower the South African churches to teach business skills to entrepreneurs so that they can create a new life for themselves. The unemployment rate in South Africa is astronomical, and Paradigm Shift has made a dent in that figure already!
Hello –
This young girl (12 years old!) has raised money to build almost 30 homes in Haiti and a nice school. She is pretty incredible.

Do they need to be Americans?
Do they need to be living in America right now?
Kathy – I’m not sure. I know he’s headed to Atlanta next. So anyone from there would be great. But I’m always looking for unsung heroes to help if people want to share them.
Although I only met her briefly, I’m really impressed with Megan Boudreaux and what she’s doing in Haiti. http://www.respirehaiti.org.
