The Christian establishment worked itself into a
lather this past week over the movie “The Da Vinci Code.” Yes, it (and the book on which it is based) is
a heretical mess. Sermons have been
preached about it and ministries have put out treatises debunking it. All of which is fine – if things are bad, get
the alarm bells ringing.
But last night the movie came out with a resounding
thud. Here was a typical review: “
The
Da Vinci Code is a terrible movie. It’s a movie that’s too stupid to
appreciate it’s own stupid origins, and so it takes itself completely seriously.”
Four out of five reviewers thought it was a bad movie. Just thought you should know: the sky isn’t
falling. Everybody can go back to watching all the
other nonheretical Hollywood movies in the
theatres.

I'm motivated to join God in his global reclamation project. He's on the move, setting his sons and daughters free from their places of captivity. And he's partnering with those of us who have been freed to go and free others.

I wondered if this would happen. The church gave the movie and book so much publicity and without that the movie is probably one of the most un-notable movies out.
We did a sermon this week at my church (i advised against it) and it felt like a classroom instead of a worship service.
I’m relieved I don’t have to wrestle with “should I see this heretical movie?” If it’s that bad, it makes it easy to skip it!
